The Best Marrakech Desert Trip

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech

Welcome to Morocco! Our 8-day trip starts right after you get to Marrakech. Our driver will be waiting for you at the airport and take you to your hotel or riad as soon as you land.

Day 2: Marrakech → Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley

Start your journey with a drive from Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, passing the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Visit the UNESCO-listed Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou and explore its historic alleys. Continue to the Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a traditional riad or guesthouse.

Day 3: Dades Valley → Todra Gorge → Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, travel through the Todra Gorge, known for its towering cliffs. Continue to Merzouga, where you’ll embark on a camel trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes. Watch the sunset and spend the night in a traditional desert camp, enjoying dinner and Berber music under the stars.

Day 4: Merzouga Excursion

The stunning dawn over the Sahara Desert captures the beauty of your 15-day Morocco journey from Marrakech. Return by camel to Merzouga after breakfast to begin your journey. Explore the interesting countryside by off-roading to an old kohl mine and seeing a nomadic family in their tent.

Berber tea and friendly hospitality will teach you about their lifestyle. Next, visit Khamlia to hear sweet Gnawa music and enjoy its unique culture. Reflect on the day’s unusual and memorable events over supper and a pleasant night at your hotel.

Day 5: Merzouga → Erfoud → Ziz Valley → Midelt → Ifrane → Fes

Depart Merzouga and travel through the beautiful Ziz Valley. Check out the traditional market in the town of Rissani. Continue to Erfoud, which is famous for its fossil shops. Next, drive through the beautiful Ziz Valley and enjoy the views.

Let’s have lunch in Midelt and then go to Ifrane, which is often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its cool temperature and buildings that look like they belong in Switzerland. Finally, you’ll get to Fes in the evening. Check into your hotel and get ready to explore the old city the next day.

Day 6: Fes Excursion

See the intriguing city of Fes with a native guide. Starting with the Royal Palace, meander over the Mellah and explore the historic Medina, a World Heritage site. Highlights include of the Chouara Tannery, Al Attarine Madrasa, and Al Karaouine University. Before lounging at your hotel, take in the energetic marketplaces and complex architecture.

Day 7: Fes → Meknes → Volubilis → Rabat

After breakfast, leave Fes for Meknes, a Moroccan royal city. Visit Meknes’ amazing Bab Mansour gate, Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, and busy El Hedim Square. Continue to Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Discover Morocco’s rich heritage in the well-preserved mosaics, temples, and public buildings. Historical settings make a picnic meal enjoyable. Travel to Rabat, Morocco’s capital, in the afternoon.

Visit the Hassan Tower, an incomplete large mosque tower, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, a spectacular Alaouite building, upon arrival. Explore the Oudayas Kasbah, a fortification with gardens and Atlantic Ocean vistas. Stay at a cozy Rabat hotel.

Day 8: Rabat → Casablanca → Marrakech Airport

Spend the morning in Rabat viewing the Hassan Tower, an unfinished magnificent mosque tower, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, a spectacular Alaouite building. After breakfast, leave Rabat for Casablanca.
